For centuries, linen sweaters and vests such as those pictured here, have been knitted by the women of Inis Meian, one of the Aran Islands strewn across the mouth of Galway Bay, off the West coast of Ireland. It lies 30 miles out to sea and supports just 200 inhabitants; and the knitting is a tradition old beyond memory. Aine and Tarlch de Blacam, owners of the Inis Meain Knitting Company say "Go maire tu is go gcaithe tu e--May you live long to wear it." Imported from Ireland.
