Inis Meain Linen Cardigan - The Linen Cardigan
Inis Meian is one of the Aran Islands that are strewn across the mouth of Galway Bay off the West coast of Ireland. It lies 30 miles out to sea and supports just 200 inhabitants. For centuries, linen sweaters such as the cardigan shown here, have been knitted by the women of the island. It is a tradition that is old beyond memory. Aine and Tarlch de Blacam, owners of the Inis Meain Knitting Company say "Go maire tu is go gcaithe tu e--May you live long to wear it." Imported from Ireland.
