The Eleganza. This breathtaking chapeau has a Japanese ultrasuede cloth crown trimmed in Finnish fox. As impressive (albeit in a very different style) is the fur trooper. The All Beaver Trooper is one such impressive specimen made by Crown Cap, and uses sheared beaver fur that's so soft, smooth and warm, it literally defies description. The design is traditional, complete with earflaps and leather ties. Crown Cap also brings forth its All Mink Trooper, and there's simply nothing richer, finer or warmer on the market. My deep-frozen friends in Winnipeg (who know what cold really means) have surpassed themselves with this mink hat.
If you'd like to try a winter ivy cap this year, The Gustav from Wigens of Sweden is probably one of the finest leather caps for men in the world. It's made of durable shearling lambskin and lined for warmth with drop down earflaps. You'll stay warm for years in this baby, although you might want to check out The Sven too. This is another leather Wigens ivy cap and boasts a suede finish, again lined with a deep, shearling pile and featuring the drop-down earflaps. A great winter cap to start your collection with is the easy-on-the-wallet Ivy Fleece from Canada's own Sam Saba. Made from soft but durable nappa leather, the drop-down earflaps are fleece-lined for comfort, and the cap is available in Black or Brown. In case you were wondering, Sam's the man behind one of the perennial favorites here at HartfordYork.com, The Classic Trooper, a sporty leather hat lined with lambs wool.
Borsalino of Italy is represented here in winter hats with The Cuffler, a high crowned, preshaped ivy cap made from a rich blend of beaver and hare fur felt. Simply the best, as you might expect from Borsalino, and available in Brown, Black or Camel. If you're in need of a little cashmere, you'll be happy to know that my search for a sumptuous watch cap was successful by way of an old friend in China who came through with The Kashmir Winter Cap. It's such a find because it's only in China where this kind of cashmere -- woven from the fine soft wool of the Cashmere goat and the wild goat of Tibet -- is available. Choose from four shades (if you can). As necessary to winter wear as is a rabbit fur trooper, the Russian style hat for women, which we call The Sleigh Ride, completes a snowy afternoon like a big, fat, hot toddy. Made by Aston, the natural shearling hat comes with or without pom-poms, and has several things going for it: it's gorgeous; it's fun to wear; it's a great price; it's warm as toast.
