Seeking men's straw dress hats? Well of course you are! Besides our fabulous summer collections of Makins Special Order Hats and Men's Casual Straw Hats, we've got a collection of brand name straw dress hats, many new for the Spring/Summer 2013 season -- and some exclusive to Hartford York. A case in point is The Vinnie, a toyo straw fedora from New York designer, Tracy Watts, who appears at Hartford York for the very first time. This is a hand blocked hat with a very fine 1x1 weave, contrast grosgrain trim and matching bound brim. Another new hat for the season is from

Borsalino, and it's a looker. Called The Ponzio, this dress hat is ultra lightweight, made from a superior parasisal straw. It's got a classic pinch front silhouette and the snap brim is just stingy at 2 inches. The grosgrain ribbon trim is tonal and a fabric sweatband adds wearer comfort.
When you'd like a shot of color in your life, The Lombardo may be just the ticket. This Borsalino dress fedora in parasisal straw is crafted in color Turquoise Blue and you'll see the grosgrain ribbon trim is in Pumpkin. It's a Hartford York exclusive snap brim hat that's not for the faint of heart. I hope you love it as much as I do.
For a more subdued color, you may like a sisal fedora from Makins of NYC, offered in the same shade as its name, The Bronze. The turned down brim is slim at two inches and it features a grosgrain ribbon trim and sweatband. Makins also offers a Panama hat that's new this season. The color in this open weave fedora comes from its fancy multi-tone grosgrain ribbon trim and solid color bound brim. Like all Makins hats, it's hand blocked in the Makins New York workshop using live steam, one at a time.
Making a repeat appearance by customer demand are two limited edition dress hats from Stetson: The Rantoul, a luxurious pinch front fedora; and The Open Road, produced in an exceedingly fine and tightly woven straw with a center dent crown and a brim that measures 2 3/4 inches. The trim, a grosgrain ribbon, is narrow on this made-in-Texas straw dress hat, and the sweatband is leather.
Borsalino straw dress hats are always a pleasure to ogle, with the once-in-a-lifetime Vented Montecristi one of my all-time favorites. Skilled artisans in Ecuador spend hundreds of hours weaving each hat body by hand before it is shaped and finished in Italy. Because the hats are made individually, the weave pattern is different on every fedora. Customers who've bought this dress hat call it "incredibly comfortable" and "just the best hat ever," saying it has "great style" and a "very high quality of craftsmanship." There's also The Panama With Fantasy Band to consider, a classic Panama fedora with a striking natural colored grosgrain band that has a dark tinge at its edge. Make sure you use the zoom feature on the product page to take a close look at the trim--it's quite unique.
I'm kind of partial to The Santana Panama Special too, truth be told. It's a magnificent Santana Panama hat made exclusively for Hartford York. The vented body is crafted from finely woven straw with a brim that's just stingy at two inches. The trim is a three pleat leather and grosgrain band with pick stitching and a Santana lion pin. Look inside for the fancy tooled leather sweatband and embroidered lion tip sticker. Now that's a straw dress hat!
You'll see other favorite straw dress hats in our inventory this season, including The Elegante, a Panama safari style hat from Christys' London in very fine Grade 20 straw. The Pinch Front Fedora from Biltmore of Canada is a Montecristi Panama hat sure to turn heads. It's as nice a hat as we have to offer. Biltmore offers other top-of-the-line Panama hats (just to make your decision-making task more challenging!) with The Classic Fedora and The Montecristi Pork Pie.
Back by demand from Borsalino are hats like The Panama Fino, a hand woven snap brim Ecuadorian hat with tan grosgrain band and bow; The Turndown, another blocked-to-perfection Panama straw dress hat, this one with a turned down brim; and The Stingy Brim Panama, a classic hat with a pinch front, 1 3/4 inch brim and grosgrain ribbon trim and sweatband.
The moral here is: seek dress straw hats at HartfordYork.com, and ye shall find them.
