Seeking men's summer dress hats? Well of course you are! And there's none better than the very affordable Scala panama hat called The Jamaican with which you can start your collection. Add to that the Emerald Dunes Coconut, a braided straw gambler with a 3 pleat print trim and 3 inch brim, and you're well on your way to some fun in the sun! Turn it up a notch (or ten) with Brent Black and his hand-woven straw fedora panama - The Montecristi Classic. This is not a hat for just anyone: it's a pricey masterpiece that's been worked on for months by master weavers in the village of Montecristi, and then by Brent Black personally. The Montecristi Classic is a hat, however, that all will openly admire, envy and maybe even try to abscond with. Similarly, there's a another panama hat (this one woven in Ecuador, which is also classic in design. Made by The Panama Hat Company, it has been named The Optimo.

Borsalino, the straw dress hat heavyweight, has sublime straws on hand this season including The Baku Porkpie, The Sicilian Fedora in hemp, and an elegant lid, known simply as The Baku Fedora. Their handwoven Fino panama hats are blocked to perfection, naturally, with one (called The Turndown) featuring a turned down brim. And get this - PorkpieMakins has a pinch front summer hat that's actually a porkpie in dark plaid! I don't think it's ever been done before. Leave it to Makins to bring fashion forward for the guy who pushes the envelope. Then there's the line of Panama straw hats from Bailey Hats, being part of the "Panama Checks" series from their upbeat Signature Collection. First there's The Albert Panama Hat, next up is The Briggs (that's a panama fedora) and last--but not least--is The Optimo dress hat. The Optimo is the one that doesn't have a pinch front like The Briggs or a center dent like The Albert, for those of you keeping track. Straw dress hats are available in pinch porkpie silhouettes too, some from Biltmore and others from Henschel in woven toyo; some in milan braid, or ramie or even sisal, and others in colors that include everything from cocoa and grey to two-tone mint.
While there are plenty of spectacular coconut braid summer fedoras to be had like the The Palm Springs Classic and The Pinch Front Cabo, rest assured that Hatdress western and cowboy hat wearers haven't been overlooked by either myself or Milano. All I ask is that you keep your new straw hat, like the vented and cooly unlined Cowboy (which has a very sharp tooled leather trim with silver buckle to complete its distinctive look) or Scala's Grade 3 Panama Hat with its slightly western flavor, called The Saratoga, far far away from the horse's mouth.
