it's time to dive into men's casual straw hats, including those made from other natural fibers like toyo and raffia, and see what grabs you.
You'll be choosing from the best casual spring and summer straw hat styles possible, of course, including two Panama hats from Kangol, new this season. Both hats are made in the USA and feature a vibrant red trim with brass buckle and contrast brim. One is in the shape of a pork pie hat with a very stingy brim of 1 1/2 inches, while the second is a fedora with a snap brim measuring two inches.
Carlos Santana offers a couple of new hats too, including The Shifter, an open weave Panama hat with a contrast woven brim and finished with a ribbon trim with Indian print overlay and pin. The other Santana fedora is called The Salvador, and this pinch front hat is in shantung straw with tooled leather sweatband, satin lined crown tip, grosgrain trim with ribbon overlay and Abraxas Angel pin. The Healer may well be the coolest hat of the year. From the Carlos Santana collection, it's a boldly woven shantung pork pie with a striking embroidered grosgrain trim and Milagro pin.
There's a shantung straw fedora from Biltmore as well. Called The Studio, it's a made-in-America hat (Texas, specifically) new this season, and has a classic silhouette with a two inch snap brim, wide grosgrain band with bow and Biltmore pin. Other Biltmore casual straw hats making an appearance include customer favorites like The Ventilated Panama, a great quality hat with dimensional brim and cool open mesh crown, and two different grades of Panama straw hats: Excello and Fino.
Scala can always be relied on for great casual straw hats for men, and one of my personal favorites is a traditional Panama hat with a cool open weave construction. Made in the USA, this hat is finished with a ribbon trim and sweatband and has a nice Scala badge on the band. The Gambler is a hat made from naturally harvested, 100% organic raffia straw from Madagascar. With its generous three-inch brim and leather trim, you'll be protected from the sun in style. In a review for Scala's Raffia Outback, a satisfied customer calls it a "great golf hat," saying "This came out of the box looking great--better even than the pics. Rugged but polished, fits great."
If you've somehow missed The Raffia Fedora from Borsalino, the one that a customer calls "a beautiful, well made hat" in colors that are a nice change from white and natural straw hats, it's not too late. We're offering it this season along with casual straw hats from Christys' London, like The Boater, a traditional Venetian skimmer hat in soft hemp braid, The Broad Brim Safari, a Grade 8 Panama hat, and a stingy brim hat with leather trim in crocheted raffia, light and comfortable on a warm day.
