Cotton is king when the sun's at its zenith, and The Expedition is a fine summer hat for the adventurer, cool in twill weave, as is The Carson Safari with its mesh crown. There are two Diamond Head hats on tap: both have three-inch brims, mesh sides and stay-put leather chin cords, but the added leather trim on the Diamond Head Two gives it a more rugged look. Dress hats from Scala are offered in materials other than straw and cotton, and include The Capri Fedora in fur felt, with a smooth suede finish, as well as a debonair fur felt dress fedora, The Venice. Sharp in black, there's one wool felt fedora from Scala (called quite simply The Fedora) no well-dressed man should be forced to live without, and The New Yorker is another fine-looking snap brim hat for the man on the go. Crushable and offered in black or putty, The Roadmaster snap brim fedora is one versatile and travel friendly hat. What's so nice about Scala is that you don't have to break the bank to wear dress hats like, well, The Banker, a water repellent wool felt fedora, or The Outback with its no-squint three-inch brim and fedora-like crown. In fact, you really can't afford not to try The Ascot, a sleek sport ivy cap in various shades of sleek. If you've never worn a porkpie, that silhouette so much a part of jazz clubs and late-night swing joints, your chance has come with The Jazz Wool Felt Porkpie, a classic of the genre. Have you also been dying to try on a top hat? No? It's being forced upon you? Oh well! At least we've got the perfect Mad Hatter for you. It's a traditional top hat in wool felt with a two-inch bound brim and 24-ligne grosgrain band. (Sorry, no rabbit.) I'm pretty sure you'll find the lightweight corduroy ivy cap, called The Edmund, perfect for springtime evening jaunts; in the same vein, you'll likely appreciate The MicroCord Newsboy, both caps like silk to touch but the man-made fiber wears hard. If it's caps you like, there's none better than the elegant Connery, a wool blend plaid ivy, or its counterpart woolen newsboy, The Lad (unless perhaps you take a peek at that knockout of an ivy cap, the striped Champ). The stingy brim Birder is no cap, but it sure is a good-looking downer-shaped hat, and it's great for a cool morning walk. Dress up your head. It's Scala time.
