Safari hats for men can be quite elegant, as with the Grade 20 panama hat from Christy's of London, called The Elegante. The straw used in this hat has been split into extremely thin strands, so that the weave (done by hand) feels like linen. The Elegante is without doubt our top-of-the-line safari hat. Not everyone can afford the high ticket price of Grade 20 panama hats, so Christys' has come up with two other safari hats that are more economical. First you'll find The Christys' Natural, a Grade 3 Panama hat in the safari style, all jazzed out with a striped hat band. Then there's the hat that's the easiest (of all the Christys' panamas) on the pocket: The Broad Brim Safari, a Grade 8 Panama hat with a 3 inch brim for extra glare protection. Treated with Weatherall, the bleached straw hat is finished with a grosgrain trim and sweatband.

Indiana Jones has a safari hat in cotton, called The Cotton Twill Indy. This hat also has a generous brim and is trimmed with a stylish grosgrain ribbon. Don't forget to look for the authentic logo pin on the hat band; it's rather discreet, but still -- it's nice to know its there as you whistle a certain theme song. The Expedition is a Scala safari men's hat in cotton; it's garment-washed so it's really soft but it has a dashing leather trim that keeps it all manly. Safari-style hats come in crocheted raffia too, like The Giovanni from Scala. Check out the Batik print band and remember that the sweatband's elasticized to ensure a snug fit. Scala's even put out a safari that you can't tear (because I guess that what some of you guys do). Their Ripstop Machu Pichu is a cool hat (literally) with mesh sides, and has a chin cord to keep the thing in place.
Gosh, I nearly forgot those two ever-popular leather safari hats! Both from Scala, The Brad is soft and supple in lambskin and features a self band and side vent holes. The Donovan Safari is a rugged, antiqued leather men's hat, also with a self band and comfort vent holes. And no worries, ladies!
