The men's hats seen here in our Fall/Winter 2014 collection represent just about every style, material and brand name you can think of. From a Cashlux homburg in Putty by Bailey to a fur felt fedora in Butterscotch (with a sideways feather, no less!) from Makins of NYC, you're sure to be delighted with the evident quality, innovative designs and superb craftsmanship. Stetson is another famous brand offering a fabulous new fedora this year, this one called The Barnstormer. The fur felt hat features a
raw edge brim, and is trimmed with a slim ribbon, Western style. From the Stetson Hats Royal collection, there's a fedora with a teardrop crown and snap brim in fur felt. Called The Downs, it too is crafted from fur felt and is of course made in Texas. We've brought back that Stetson classic western hat, The Open Road, in fur felt and a color known as Silver Belly, together with The Firenze, a top-of-the-line fur felt fedora, made from an exquisite blend of beaver and rabbit fur.
There's a new hat this season from Borsalino you'll want to take a look at. Called The Traveler, it's a textured fur felt fedora with a melusine finish. Unlined and with an open crown, the hat is in Navy Blue and features a grosgrain ribbon trim. It really is something. You'll see some Borsalino favorites as well, including The Como, a hat that gets great reviews like: "it fits perfect, it looks awesome!!!" and "This hat was a present for my husband. He is most satisfied." There's another called The Balducci, a stingy brim fedora in fur felt with its grosgrain ribbon trim strikingly set off with a diagonal striped silk fabric. The Cervelt, a unique and extravagant dress hat from Borsalino, made from a blend of fur that includes the soft underside fur from the New Zealand red deer, also makes a back-by-demand appearance this year. One customer who reviewed the fedora said:
By far the nicest hat that I have ever owned. Incredibly soft material that keeps very well its shape. Very distinctive color.
Some of the men's hats you see here are exclusive to Hartford York. Tracy Watts, the New York designer, offers two such hats this season: The Bed-Stuy Fedora and The Bed-Stuy Derby. Made from fur felt, each hat has a bound brim that's just stingy at two inches, a constrast color keeper and is trimmed with a grosgrain band and bow. Finishing touches include full silk linings and the hats are fitted with fabric sweatbands for added comfort.
Biltmore is offering several new hats this year as well, and in fact has a pork pie hat in fur felt called The Orleans, which could very likely take top spot on your hat rack. It's a real beaut with a classic stingy brim with bound edge and a smooth overall finish. Biltmore brings several fur felt fedoras to the table as well. They're all made in the USA (Texas to be specific), and include The Naples, a dress hat with a low crown profile, The Florence in your choice of Black or Steel, and The New York. The last-named is a stingy brim fur felt hat with a beautiful Rossellini finish that brings out the nap in the fur.
There are more hats, of course, with the Santana by Carlos Santana line being well represented with hats like The Chant, a diamond crown stingy brim fur felt fedora with a grosgrain trim that boasts a leather overlay and Abraxas angel pin, and The Corazon, a pinch front fur felt dress hat with a slightly wider brim and its own fancy trim. Kangol makes an appearance with men's hats that include the new Melange Player, a wool felt trilby with a stingy brim and metal dome pin, and a pork pie hat crafted from water repellent LiteFelt and available in your choice of several colors. If it's stingy brim walking hat you're after, The Lennox from JB Stetson is just the ticket in 100% virgin wool with a fancy frayed ribbon trim.
To succintly (and accurately) sum this treatise up, if you want a men's hat for the Fall/Winter season, you've come to the right place.
