Sometimes cashmere is necessary to complete the perfect outfit, and The Gotland Ball Cap from Wigens in pure European cashmere is back by popular demand, along with its ivy cap counterpart, The Olaf. Boy, I love Sweden. From Germany, John B. Stetson brings in their 100% pure virgin wool Edgewater Ivy Cap, in a brown check plaid with tie-up earlaps, as well as their Essex Ball Cap, with its more refined plaid and brown leather bill. In fact, JB Stetson has some soft-as-cashmere leather ivy caps I think you oughtta see: the Quilcene in lambskin is really very fine, and The Bodmin Ivy Cap is outstanding, with its contrast wool/poly blend crown and brown leather inset.
Getting back to wool, though, we haven't forgotten the standards, like the woolen Kangol 405 unisex ivy or the Flex Baseball Cap with its famous embroidered kangaroo. We even got involved in the design of The Wigens Erikson Ivy, a lambs wool herringbone cap. The snap front was their design; the black paisley lining and leather covered brim? My idea. The Erikson is exclusive to HartfordYork.com (and you).
Another imported cap (this one from Ireland) is The Jonathan Richard Sport Cap, a virgin wool baseball cap with precurved bill and available in green or grey herringbone. Very nice. Of course, so is his satin-lined Vintage County Ivy Cap which (like the Jonathan Richard Gatsby Ivy Cap) is made of a superior quality fabric first introduced in the early 1900s specifically for the 'Sporting Gentry'. The combination of Worsted, Merino and fine Cheviot woolen spun yarns gives the fabric its unique feel and county sports characteristics. Tally-ho and pip pip!
Christys' has an Italian Collection we're proud to carry, and fine examples of these caps include: The Sardinia Ivy Cap in a wool and cashmere blend; The Piave, a cushion front patchwork ivy cap; and the Tiber, an all-wool cap featuring a herringbone pattern (which is to die for in Olive, I must say). The longshoreman cap (with its longer profile than the traditional ivy) is also available from Christys'. Called The Milvian, it's made from 100% wool, and comes in two great patterned herringbones. Ivy caps come in leather too, of course, like The Sven from Wigens in Rust or Green, and The Gustav, warmly lined and made from unblemished shearling lambskin. Sam Saba (of the Great White North) also offers ivy caps made from only the best Nappa leather and fashioned with fleece-lined drop-down earflaps. Too comfortable for words, really.
If you refuse to wear baseball caps 'on principle', you obviously haven't seen the satin-lined All Together Cap, which comes under my heading of Art For Your Head. From 1333 Minna, a San Francisco alliance of artists, this men's fitted cap features a bold montage in embroidery, screen printing and patchwork on the front panel. Crafted from flocked corduroy and twill, as well as plush wool felt, it brings together vintage lettering and retro embellishments with classic patterns. The Archer is another men's fitted cap from 1333 Minna, this one in felt, tweed and twill, with patterns (inspired by traditional Japanese motifs) embroidered and printed on the cap and bill.
I'm not quite finished, but you go ahead and start shopping. I'll be the little buzz in the background.
