The fur felt hat collection at Hartford York has never been more impressive than this Fall/Winter 2014 season, with hats like The Hollywood, a teardrop crown fedora in Butterscotch from NYC designer Makins, and The Eternal, a stingy brim fedora from Santana by Carlos Santana with a fancy grosgrain trim with colorful "Navajo" overlay. Tracy Watts introduces a pair of fur felt hats, the
Brooklyn hatter calling them The Bed-Stuy Fedora and The Bed-Stuy Derby. Each has a two inch bound brim, contrast color keeper and grosgrain ribbon trim with bow and pin. Lined with satin and fitted with a grosgrain fabric sweatband, the hats are comfortable on the head, easy on the eye and exclusive to Hartford York (and you).
Bailey has also come up with perfect-for-the-season fur felt hats, and they're all made in the U.S.A. One is The Edsel, and this pinch front fedora from Bailey's Superior Fur Felt line features a curled brim that gives it a truly distinctive look. From the same line, you'll see The Duffy with its teardrop crown, snap brim and tacked bow. Until it sells out, you can choose this fur felt hat in Black or Cognac. Another choice is The Burl, and it's also from the Bailey Superior Fur Felt line. This fur felt fedora features a center dent crown with a two inch snap brim, and grosgrain trim with bow.
Biltmore has a pork pie hat in fur felt called The Orleans, and it's a beaut with a smooth finish, and bound stingy brim. The milliner offers several fur felt fedoras as well, all made in Texas, such as The Florence in your choice of Black or Steel, The Naples, a dress hat with a low crown profile, and The New York, a very stingy brim fur felt hat with a beautiful Rossellini finish (which is an extra suede finish that brings out the nap in the fur, creating a soft and irresistible feel).
Fur felt hats from Stetson include the new Barnstormer, a truly fabulous fur felt fedora in a perfect shade of Caribou. This dress hat with a raw edge brim has a slim ribbon trim, giving it a slightly Western style. There's also The Downs, from Stetson's Royal collection, another fedora crafted from fur felt with a teardrop crown and snap brim. We've of course included Stetson's tribute fur felt hat, The Stratoliner, in our collection here. How could we not, with one satisfied customer calling it a "magnificent hat" and saying it brings him back to his childhood when "all the well dressed gentleman wore one."
We've also brought back The Foldaway, a fur felt fedora by Christys' London, which is a perennial favorite around here. A few reasons why customers love this hat can be seen from these five-star reviews:
Although I got this fedora to travel with, it immediately became one of my all time favorites, travel-able or not! The color is versatile, and it is true to size. This hat is one of the few reasons I'm impatient for winter!
I've had this had for at least three years. You really can crush it, or roll it up, Then "re-inflate" it, reshape it, and it's ready to go.
I like to take a hat when I travel, but they always end up getting crushed in the aircraft overhead bin. This one rolls up nicely and fits in my carry on or blazer pocket.
I bought this hoping it would look as good on me as it did in the picture. I was pleased. Since it is a foldaway, it is thinner and more casual looking than a standard fur felt hat. It is still quite striking.
As if all of that isn't enough, we've got traditional fur felt hats like Christys' London Trilby, their honest-to-goodness top hat and even a classic bowler, a la Charlie Chaplin's beloved derby, of which one five-star reviewer says "Quite simply, the best hat I have ever owned. The highest quality I have ever seen."
