The fedoras in our Spring/Summer 2013 collection are outstanding and include such works of hat art as The Ponzio from Borsalino of Italy. The Vinnie hails from New York and is a Tracy Watts fedora in toyo straw. This dress hat is hand blocked in a 1x1 weave and features contrast trim in grosgrain ribbon with a button tether. The brim is bound in the same color, and the effect is excellent. Makins (also based in NYC) offers up a number of new Spring/Summer fedoras, including a Panama hat with an open weave with two inch bound brim and fancy multi-tone grosgrain trim. There's a trio of sisal fedoras from Makins, each with a two inch turned down brim and constrast grosgrain trim with fabric sweatband. The difference is in the colors, as the hat names indicate: The Bamboo, The Mist and The Bronze. As always with hats from Makins, they are hand blocked using live steam.
Carlos Santana offers a great Panama fedora called The Shifter. This open weave hat has a contrast woven two inch brim and the trim is a ribbon with Indian print overlay and Abraxas angel pin. Flip the hat to see the tooled leather sweatband and satin-lined crown tip. The Salvador is a shantung pinch front fedora from Santana. It too has a tooled leather sweatband, satin lined crown tip and grosgrain trim with ribbon overlay and Abraxas angel pin, but the looks of these two hats are unique unto themselves. The Santana Special, a Panama hat, is making an encore appearance. This very popular stingy brim hat--exclusive to Hartford York--is trimmed with a pleated and pick stitched leather and grosgrain band, and you'll note the Santana lion pin at one side. One satisfied customer called The Santana Special "one awesome hat," saying "it looks even better in person then in the photo."
If you're looking for a stingy brim straw fedora from Biltmore, check out The Studio. Made in the USA, this shantung hat has a two inch snap brim, grosgrain band and Biltmore pin. It's a classic summer hat from a big brand name at an amazing price. What's not to love? Same goes for The Tommy Bahama Fedora, a tightly woven toyo hat with a slightly larger brim at 2 1/2 inches. The trim is a handsome three-pleat jacquard print ribbon with TB marlin pin.
The Stratoliner in milan braid is back by demand, with one customer review reading: "A high quality Stetson, classic 1940's style. Dress up or down, it'll look great." This fedora from Stetson is a remake of a famous Stetson hat from decades past. It features a bound 2 1/4 inch brim and narrow grosgrain trim with airplane pin. A customer review for The Burnaby, a fancy shantung fedora reads: "Very well made, true to size, nicely designed, a pleasure to wear." Look at the contrast weave pattern on its brim -- you'll like it. Lightweight and luxurious, The Rantoul is a snap brim fedora made from a tightly woven Japanese Bu Shantung. Stetson made this hat in very limited number, so order yours today to avoid disappointment.
Other fedoras that you might wish to consider owning come from Borsalino. The Vented Montecristi starts in Ecuador where several hundred hours of weaving work go in to create a hat body with a exceptional linen-like texture. The weave pattern on each hat is different as these are truly one of a kind hats. The Borsalino Panama with Fantasy Band is actually a classic Panama fedora and its "fantasy" band is a grosgrain ribbon that features a dark tinged edge on the natural colored band.
