There's probably more to life than cotton baseball caps, ladies' sun hats and rugged outbacks, but don't ask me what. That being said, I do admit to being partial to The Indy, a grand fedora in weathered cloth, and also to that inimitable patchwork rex from Wigens. However, I still say that women's broad-brim canvas summer hats, like The Caroline, and The Constantine (a nautical ballcap with great anchor embroidery), are pretty darn important to the quality of life.

Just look at the range of colors offered with Scala's Colors of the Rainbow women's cotton hat. Line up your chakras with your own color therapy plus protect your skin from too much sun -- all while looking seriously hot in your canvas bucket. Summer colors aren't just the domain of women, I'll have you know: The Bryan ivy cap is cool in camel, green, navy and red; while The Stan (in washed twill) is a way laid-back ivy in black, khaki or putty.
Men can always chill in the western style Henschel Breezer, with a full mesh breeze-catching top, which is also available in a wider brim, or perhaps in The Diamond Head khaki sun hat from Scala. For the true adventurer, a classic safari hat (made of ripstop cotton, no less) is to be had in The Machu Pichu (or you can buy it just for its name) while The Sahara Expedition Cap with is quite capable of saving your life (or at least your neck) with its sun shield.
Summer without cotton caps and hats? I think not. It would become a season filled with very crabby and sun-burnt people. Buy your beach hat today! Save summer as we know it.
